When I start studying about work teams, I became surprised how much contribution is made by work teams in our performance at organization level as well as at a given task in class. I learned about why teams are becoming popular and how work teams are slightly different from work groups. This comparison makes me astonish that work teams are the best ways to get your goal in efficient and effective way.
As I learned about work teams, it is a group of people having different skills, talent and expertise which combine their effort to get their common purpose or common goal (Robbins, Work Teams). It can be either on employees in a company or in a class to perform a project. Work teams can be 2 to 25 members (Robbins, Work Teams). Work teams are becoming popular because in teams, performance can be better rather than individuals (Robbins, Work Teams).
It can use expertise of individuals in a best ways (Robbins, Work Teams). Teams becomes more flexible an adoptive to change according to environment (Robbins, Work Teams). That’s why it have more significance rather than work groups which is a group of people who primarily share information to make decisions individually (Robbins, difference Between Work Group & Work Teams).
Learning about work teams assist me to understand to get your goal through collective performance. However, it creates a positive synergy between team members and you become able to analyze performance individually as well as mutually (Robbins, difference Between Work Group & Work Teams). In work teams we have flexibility to choose team members according to your goal it can be either from the same department or can be chosen from the different departments but the same hierarchy level to accomplish a task (Antoni).
Let’s have an example of an automotive company who makes an effective marketing campaign through using work teams for this. To develop marketing campaign for Yee Haw Automotive a cross functional team was used. In which teams members are chosen from the different department on same hierarchy level like, finance department, marketing department, sales department, parts and services and general manager. In this, each member has its unique perspective due to the different area of work specialization.
Work teams are most effective because they hold a diverse attributes like age, gender, race, educational level and experience in organization which becomes their competitive edge on other.If we talk about how it will helps individually. Working with a diverse people grows an individual’s mentality or increase exposure to do thing (Robbins, Work Teams). When they will brainstorm to plan their project each one has the different opinion. From so many options you can chose the best one and have option to divide work according to individual expertise. It will take less time and effort to get you goal.
Being as a student performing as work team is important because it helps to achieve an inclusive, well formed education. Team work is necessary between students, teachers, employees and parents too. If we become used to perform as team player in our school level it will broader our vision. We have more exposure to done a task in different way. Through team work you can overcome on the individual resistance to the other members, you can set a collective culture and introduce teams which have been performed historically magnificent.
